Stephen Wan

"Building Social Media Analytics Applications: A Ten-Year Retrospective"

With over 15 years of experience in applied research, Stephen Wan leads the Language and Social Computing team (http://reseasrch.csiro.au/lasc), at CSIRO, Australia.S His team has developed systems used by both the government and private sector for areas such as business intelligence, social media monitoring, and information systems for scientific literature.

Stephen holds a PhD in computational linguistics from Macquarie University, on the topic of automatic text summarisation and statistical text generation. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford and at the University of Manchester. Since then, Stephen has worked at the CSIRO as a research scientist focusing on applications of NLP for social media, scientific literature and corporate documents.

Stephen is the 2019-2020 Out-going President and Secretary of the Australasian Language Technology Association (ALTA). He has organised and chaired several workshops and conferences and is on the program committees of major international conferences and journals in NLP.
